Baja
Nature Cruises
The
Solmar V is delighted to announce three very special "Baja
Nature Cruises" on board the boat during June-July, 2008.
If our normal liveaboard diving cruises could be described as "Dive,
Dive, Dive", then our Baja Nature Cruises should be
labeled "Snorkel, Dive, Explore, Kayak, and More"!
The main focus for these three unique cruises is to explore the
fascinating twin worlds of the Sea of Cortez and the Baja Peninsula.
Using our 22 ft. inflatables to cover both land and sea excursions,
we'll also use kayaks to explore estuaries, bird sanctuaries, and
sea lion rookeries. We'll also do short hikes on the beaches and
islands in the Sea of Cortez and the Baja Peninsula. Throw in snorkeling
with whale sharks (using an ultralight spotting plane to help find
them), some beach barbecues, and searching for giant blue and finback
whales, and you'll come away from this cruise with a true appreciation
of the wonders of Baja, above and below water.
Many of our guests have inquired over
the years whether we would ever offer a trip they could bring
their family on, or invite non-diving
spouses and friends. Last year, we tested the waters with our first
two exploratory Baja Nature Cruises, and the guests, divers and
non-divers, loved them. So the answer is now "Yes"!
While SCUBA will be offered in conjunction
with other activities, the main focus of the Nature Cruises is
to expand our exploration
of the Baja "beyond SCUBA". So expect to be snorkeling
with whale sharks and sea lions, visiting the pristine San Jose
Estuary by inflatable and kayak, enjoying mini hikes on the islands
and mainland of Baja, CA, and experiencing giant finback and blue
whales near Isla Danzante.
 Some of the highlights:
- Los Islotes Sea Lion Colony, the largest in the Sea of Cortez
- Snorkeling with Whale Sharks in La Paz Bay, with an Ultralight
Airplane to guide us
- Bird Watching via Kayak and Inflatable in the San Jose Estuary
- Snorkeling and SCUBA at Cabo Pulmo, the largest coral reef
in the western Americas
- Exploring the islands of Las Animas, San Diegito, and San Jose,
north of La Paz
- Looking for the resident finback and blue whales near Isla
Danzante.
If you've always wanted to explore the Sea of Cortez in
a unique and unusual way, this is the trip for you! Snorkel,
Dive, Explore, Kayak, and More!
