BBC World News: Socorro Islands World Heritage Status
On the last cruise of our Socorro Islands 2012-13 season, we were joined by BBC World News correspondent John McIntyre. The diver/reporter/cameraman was reviewing the underwater attractions of the Revillagigedo Archipelago and comparing them to both the Galapagos Islands and Cocos Islands. Why?
The Socorro Islands currently have "pending" status as a World Heritage Site. If these islands were to receive that prestigious recognition it would greatly help our ongoing conservation efforts at the islands as well as boost international awareness for sharks, mantas, and other marine life.
John was there to film and report on the underwater attractions. Were they worthy of World Heritage SIte status?
